Wrapping Up

The certified teacher who was to do J's end-of-year review was put on bedrest for the end of her pregnancy and wasn't able to come over to review his portfolio with him. Instead, we sent the portfolio to her and she reviewed it on her own (with copious-to-the-point-of-being-obnoxious post-its from me). She wrote up the report and sent it in with plenty of time to spare before the June 30th deadline.

I was very pleased with her report (bare bones! Now let's cross our fingers that the school board is satisfied with it), and even more pleased with the compliments she sent me privately.

We'll continue learning throughout the summer, of course. We're studying Caesar's Rome at the moment and made a crown of leaves today after J had read about Roman numerals and Shakespeare's Julius Caesar:

I was happy to have the opportunity to tell him all about the phrase "resting on your laurels" and where it came from, nerd that I am.

And we're planting seedlings for science. Yesterday we planted 18 sunflower seeds in an egg carton and are hoping the squirrels don't discover them. J found a bunch of botany experiments he wants to try, and we're in the process of making a windmill from a gallon milk jug.

He's also making a periscope from two buttermilk cartons, but I have no idea where to file that. I guess it goes under F for fun ;)
